Locally, Stan
is a well known resident who is admired for his practical well made kitchens
and exquisite hand made furniture. His past includes an interesting but well
known story of his time which he served in the Army. It was here that he was
rewarded with his name "Wheelbarrow" from an officer who when approached
his surname was left staggered and unable to pronounce Samulkiewicz. This
Army Officer was not the only one to have difficulty in pronouncing Stan's
surname, as people from his local community have grown to know Stan as Mr
Summer Cabbage.
The above picture of the wheelbarrow
is one which can be seen in the Narrogin Centenary Park. A walk along the
cement path will lead you to tile number 57, a granite tile giving a brief
momento of Stan, a wheelbarrow filled with cabbages stands in front of a rising
sun which gives us the equation :
Wheelbarrow +Cabbages + Rising Sun = Samulkiewicz.
So when you are granted the time
to meet our well known, jovial resident through Narrogin Joinery or Trengarin
Stained Glass Gallery, feel free to call him "Stan" as you will
only be joining the queue in being unable to pronounce his surname.
In recent years Stan commenced
making furniture from recycled timber. As well as using old telephone cross
arms, he obtains timber from some of the older local buildings being demolished.
From this source he obtains mainly Jarrah, most of which is over fifty years
old, and then creates pieces of work that have some history and a story to
tell.
Stan brands his furniture with
a stamp which has been taken from his story of Mr Wheelbarrow.
Stan can make furniture to order,
so if you want that special piece he will be more than happy to accommodate
your wishes. You can contact Stan at the following address :
